Brash Higgins SHZ Shiraz 2021 is crafted from organically farmed Shiraz vines planted in 1997 at the Omensetter Vineyard in McLaren Vale, known for its red-brown clay over limestone soils and cooling breezes from the nearby gulf. The 2021 vintage delivered pristine growing conditions. The wine is naturally fermented with 20% whole bunches in open fermenters over 3 weeks, then matured for 20 months in a mix of new and used French hogsheads. It shows a jet black hue with a brooding nose of black plums, blood orange zest, spicy paprika, nutmeg, and liquorice, supported by earthy notes typical of the vineyard’s terroir. The palate is generous and savoury, with rustic tannins balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, spicy finish featuring dark berries. It received a 93-point rating from Ned Goodwin, reflecting its refined balance between power and elegance.
