Mataro Rosé
Mataro Rosé is quickly becoming a favourite for Aussies after a rosé with depth and character, especially coming from spots like the Barossa and McLaren Vale. Unlike light, purely fruit-driven rosés, this style packs a bit more punch, think vibrant red fruits like strawberries, watermelon, and raspberry mingled with subtle spice, herbs, and even a gentle savoury edge that adds complexity and texture.
It’s usually pale to medium salmon pink, with a crisp, dry palate balanced by juicy acidity and a soft, almost creamy mouthfeel that makes it incredibly drinkable. You’ll often get aromas of fresh strawberries, delicate florals, hints of wild herbs, and sometimes a touch of citrus zest or almond.
It’s a seriously versatile drop for the Aussie table, perfect alongside fresh seafood, charcuterie, grilled prawns, summer salads, or lighter pasta dishes. The wine’s balance of fruit, acidity and subtle savoury notes means it works beautifully with food that’s not too heavy but has a bit of flavour punch.
