Usher Tinkler Reserve Chardonnay 2022 is a premium, single vineyard wine from a 40-year-old vineyard in Hunter Valley, planted in 1981. The grapes are hand-picked, whole bunch pressed, and undergo wild fermentation in French oak barrels (25% new, low to medium toast) where the wine is aged on lees for 5 to 6 months with minimal batonnage. It displays classic Hunter Valley characteristics with ripe melon, lemon, subtle oak, and complexity including notes of barbecued and caramelized peaches, pineapple, mango, praline, vanilla cream, and a touch of buttered toast. The wine maintains a delicate nutty presence with a refreshing lemon meringue finish. It is drinking superbly now but has the structure to age gracefully for 6+ years. This wine offers intrigue, comfort, and excellent balance, reflecting the distinctive terroir and skill of Usher Tinkler’s winemaking.
