Haddow + Dineen Sehnsucht Riesling 2024 from Tasmania’s Coal River Valley is a textural, wild‑edged Riesling, hand‑picked, wild‑fermented, unfined and unfiltered from a tiny, meticulously farmed vineyard that the Haddow + Dineen team manage themselves. It is made with a measured amount of skin contact to build flavour, phenolic grip and complexity while keeping the variety’s natural line and drive.

In the glass, Haddow + Dineen Sehnsucht Riesling 2024 feels electric – citrus, spice and stone wrapped around real phenolic crunch, saline notes and length that makes you sit up, with tension but no hardness, and flavour without slipping into simple, easy, fruit‑salad territory. Expect lemon and lime, green apple, hints of honeysuckle and a faintly salty, mineral finish that keeps it ultra‑moreish and food‑ready.

On the table it is crying out for oysters, raw and cured fish, pickled seafood, Japanese and Korean dishes, or salty snacks and washed‑rind cheeses, where the acidity, texture and savoury edge cut through fat and umami beautifully. It also shines with more left‑of‑centre pairings like fried chicken, spicy pickles or vegetable tempura, especially served nicely chilled but not icy.
