Esk Valley Estate Pinot Gris, lovingly produced by winemaker Gordon Russell at Esk Valley’s vineyard estate in Hawke’s Bay, within the prestigious Gimblett Gravels sub-region of New Zealand. Sourced from the stony Keltern vineyards on Ngaruroro River terraces, fruit was gently pressed, then fermented in both stainless steel and seasoned oak barriques, with lees stirring adding mouthfeel and nuance. Pale straw in colour, it offers aromas of nashi pear, white peach, citrus blossom and honey, with a hint of spice. The palate is rich yet lithe-ripe orchard fruit, balanced acidity, fine texture and a lingering dry finish. Awarded 4/5 by Cuisine Magazine, this is an elegant, refreshing Pinot Gris for now or with short-term cellaring.
