The Dominique Portet Single Vineyard Cabernet-Malbec 2021, from the Coldstream sub-region of Yarra Valley, is a beautifully poised red crafted by Ben Portet (with consulting from founder Dominique Portet). Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (91%) with 9% Malbec, it was fermented over 22 days and aged 14 months in French oak (30% new). Aromas of raspberries, red currants, dusty spice and subtle tobacco lead into a medium-bodied palate of juicy red fruit, fine-grained tannins and savoury garrigue notes. A crisp acid line and polished oak ensure structure without heaviness. Critical scores: 96 pts from Halliday Wine Companion, 94 pts from Gary Walsh.
