Brash Higgins FRANC Cabernet Franc 2023 is a finely structured, aromatic wine from the Sands Vineyard in McLaren Flat, McLaren Vale. The vineyard is planted on cracking black clay soils and has vines dating back to 1988. This single-vineyard Cabernet Franc was wild fermented in open fermenters and macerated for five weeks with twice-daily hand plunging. It spent fifteen months in eight-year-old French hogsheads, emphasizing elegance and complexity. The wine shows a translucent violet color with lifted aromas of jalapeno, alpine herbs, roasted bell pepper, violets, ashes, rose petals, and mulberry. On the palate, it is balanced and deep with a luscious, pure mouthfeel and a long smooth finish with papery tannins. The alcohol is 13.4%, and the pH is 3.6, with total acidity at 6.4 g/l. Only around 380 cases were produced.
