Domaine Asmara Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 from Heathcote is a classic, full‑bodied Cab from serious red country – dense, dark and structured, yet polished enough to feel properly special at the table. It comes from low‑yielding vines on rich Cambrian soils, with a mix of wild ferment and time in French barriques adding detail and complexity.

In the glass you’re looking at deep colour and an intense nose of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plum, with layers of bay leaf, dried herbs, cedar and subtle vanilla‑spice oak. The palate is firmly structured but nicely balanced – ripe dark fruits, hints of tobacco and cocoa, fresh, regional acidity and long, fine tannins that make this feel both powerful and ageworthy, very much in the serious Heathcote Cabernet mould.

Domaine Asmara Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is made for robust food: grilled rib‑eye, lamb backstrap, slow‑cooked beef cheeks or a big wedge of aged cheddar and other hard cheeses all work a treat alongside its depth and tannin line. It’s drinking well now with a decent decant, but has the bones to cellar comfortably for close to a decade, softening and gaining more savoury complexity over time.
