Cape Mentelle ICON Cabernet Sauvignon, from Margaret River (Western Australia), is one of the estate’s flagship red wines. Made with 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot, it offers deep garnet colour with black plum edges. On the nose: mineral-driven blackcurrant, dark chocolate, anise and bay leaf, with herbal notes of rosemary and forest floor. The palate is powerful: dark forest berry fruits, mulberry and blackcurrant, with spicy ginger, caramel-toffee and cocoa powder. Tightly framed by powdery tannins, it shows saline coastal minerality and a long textured finish. Critically lauded 95 points from James Halliday, 96 points from Falstaff. Alcohol is 14.5%. Best enjoyed 2022-2035+ with hearty dishes or cellar investment.
