About this product
Petaluma Yellow Label Merlot 2019 from Petaluma in Coonawarra is a deep, brooding purple red with that classic terra rossa richness and a plush, crowd‑pleasing feel in the glass. This 2019 Petaluma Yellow Label Coonawarra Merlot is very much a full‑bodied, serious merlot that still drinks with easy confidence on a weeknight.
The nose is all rich red berry fruits, ripe plum, blackcurrant and cherry, backed by cedar, spice and a gentle cassis note. On the palate it’s full, luscious and opulent, loaded with black fruits and sweet, ripe plum, layered with cedar oak, mocha and a touch of leafiness, framed by abundant yet silky tannins typical of low‑crop Merlot. The finish is long, dark‑fruited and satisfying, with enough structure to reward a decade in the cellar.
This Petaluma Yellow Label Merlot 2019 is spot‑on with a lean cut of beef and roast vegetables, slow‑cooked lamb, rich ragù or hearty Italian dishes. It will also sit nicely alongside roast meats in general and hard cheeses, and is best served in a Bordeaux glass at around 15–18 °C, with peak drinking stretching from now through to the mid‑2030s.
