The 2017 Poggio al Tesoro “Dedicato a Walter” Bolgheri Superiore DOC, a 100% Cabernet Franc crafted by Marilisa Allegrini in Bolgheri, Tuscany, is a remarkably refined expression of this rare varietal. Wild-fermented and aged for 24 months in new French oak, it balances power with finesse. Aromas of blackcurrant, wild herbs, mint, tobacco leaf and a hint of red pepper lead into a palate dense with dark fruit, graphite, spice and fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity and saline minerality support a long savoury finish. Awarded 95 points by James Suckling, 94 by Vinous, and 95 by Wine Spectator.
