Vineyard Heritage: The Saint-Amour wine comes from a very small and special area, with vines that are 50 years old. These old vines are known for producing exceptional grapes because they’ve had many years to dig deep into the soil.
Location: The grapes are grown on a piece of land called Champs-Grillés, which is part of a mountain called Bessay. It’s a steep area, which makes it difficult to work on, but such locations often lead to high-quality wine.
Soil Composition: The soil in Saint-Amour has a mix of granite, clay, and limestone. Usually, this mix would make for lighter wines, but because Chermette’s vines are in granite soil, the wine turns out to be quite intense.
Wine Characteristics: The wine is described as having the strength of a Moulin-à-Vent (which is known for robust wines) and the aromatic qualities of a Fleurie (known for its floral and fragrant wines). It’s said to be long, flowing, and lacy, suggesting elegance and a smooth texture.
Tasting Experience: This wine is meant to be enjoyed for its complexity and the delightful experience it brings with each sip, inviting you to come back to it repeatedly.
