2023 Basket Town Pompette (Syrah Grenache) Adelaide Hills
A brand-new wine from Jasper, Pompette translates to tipsy in French. His aim was a bistro-style wine that can be chilled and consumed with pleasure; well, he’s nailed it.
The Syrah (85%) was sourced from the Kas Sluiter vineyard in Mylor, while the Grenache is sourced from Fiona Wood’s (also a source for the Jauma wines!) vineyard in Blewitt Springs. Each parcel was hand-harvested, destemmed and chilled. Fermentations were wild and extraction was very gentle. The wine then matured in puncheons for six months, followed by four months in tank before release.
“The Syrah was light in frame and colour this year, so Grenache was used to flesh out the mid-palate and provide the juiciness and generosity. Syrah and Grenache are complementary, with dark brambly fruits and violets in the Syrah and juicy Grenache red fruits and ample natural acidity.” Jasper’s notes
