As this vineyard ages we are beginning to see some lovely old vine characters showing through. Deep crimson in colour, the nose shows profound ripe fruit characters, exotic earthy spice notes and a hint of toasty oak. In the mouth the wine is firm up front, showing classic black cherry and damson plum fruit with lovely density and poise. The tannins are ripe & powdery giving an impression of mocha and liquorice.Structural acidity gives the wine great length of flavour, allowing the fruit to run its full course through the palate.

Viticulture
This is our single vineyard Pinot Noir grown in the Konrad family’s own Waihopai Valley block. It is grown on an arch cane canopy with yields restricted to ensure the small, intensely flavoured grapes ripen to optimum maturity.

Winemaking
The fruit was picked in the cool of the night then cold soaked for a week prior to a warm, wild ferment. The caps were plunged regularly during primary fermentation to extract the right amount of colour, tannin & flavour from the skins. After a short post-ferment maceration, the wine was pressed and matured in seasoned French oak barriques for 10 months prior to bottling.

Cellaring
Leave this in the cellar for 2 years before opening and you will be well rewarded. It will age for 8-10 years at least. Decant & aerate for maximum enjoyment.
