Syrahmi Garden of Earthly Delights Sangiovese 2023 from Syrahmi in Heathcote is a seriously classy, medium‑bodied Sangiovese that balances bright red fruit, savoury earth and fine structure in a very Italianate frame. The wine comes off the GKLR Vineyard at Colbinabbin, VCR23 clone, fully destemmed, wild‑fermented and left just over three weeks on skins before a gentle press to large French foudre and seasoned Austrian oak.

In the glass, this 2023 Garden of Earthly Delights Sangiovese shows wild red raspberries, dark cherry and plum with violet, thyme, undergrowth, bitter chocolate and a little balsamic twist, all carried on fine, lacy tannins and bright acidity. It feels elegant and poised rather than showy, with enough depth and grip to age for a decade but already seductive and moreish from the first sip.

Food‑wise it is a dream with pizza, tomato‑based pasta, grilled pork, roast chook, herby lamb, hard cheeses and cured meats, basically anything Italian‑inspired where tomato, herbs and umami are front and centre.
