’Nizza’ is the newest and highest standard of Italy’s DOCG for Barbera wines, a privilege reserved only for the most uncompromising parcels scattered in the airy hills around the communes of Calamandrana & Nizza Monferrato in the heart of Piemonte. Think of ‘Nizza DOCG’ as the ‘Barolo DOCG’ of the Barbera grape.

Our 2019 version and first ’Nizza’ continues our focus on bio-friendly farming high in these Monferrato hills, framed by a magical season of just-right growing conditions. Once-again we hand pick to fermentation & maceration on skins for almost 2 months to extract everything, then settle her pluckiness in a large-format neutral boté to mesh undisturbed for 18 months, before bottling and resting those final 6 months in the winery.

This is your essential summer BBQ wine, stuffed to the gills with wads of dark plum, fragrant spice, tart cherries, a hint of smoked meat, and a finish that repeats that seductive taut pluminess almost ad infinitum.
