Domaine Georges Vernay La Blonde du Seigneur Côte-Rôtie 2021, under Christine Vernay in the famed Côte Blonde sub-region of Northern Rhône, is a beautifully poised Syrah (95%) with 5% Viognier. The nose emits fragrant red and black fruits – cherry, cassis – lifted by violets, dried rose and gentle spice. On the palate it delivers a refined, athletic profile: fine, silky tannins, vibrant acidity, succulent fruit and minerality drawn from the gneiss-rich soils. At 14% alcohol and aged 18 months (c. 25% new oak), its structure is luxe yet balanced. Critically, it’s been hailed as “grandiose and perfectly realised” for its ageing potential.
