Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020 from the wild northwest of Montalcino is a thrilling, sculpted Sangiovese that marries bright red fruit, floral lift and serious structure in a wine that sits a clear step above most of its peers in this approachable vintage. This Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino 2020 is drawn from high‑altitude, cool clay and rocky galestro soils, then aged around 24 months in large oak casks to capture both purity and detail.

Aromas roll out in layers of red cherry, wild strawberry and blood orange, threaded with rose petals, violet, dried herbs and sweet spice over a core of tobacco leaf, leather, terracotta and iron‑rich earth. On the palate it’s medium‑plus to full‑bodied yet beautifully poised, with seamless, silky but assertive tannins framing flavours of cherry skin, sour plum, pomegranate, balsamic and savoury spice, all carried by vibrant acidity into a long, mineral, violet‑tinged finish. It is already seductive with a good decant, but clearly built for graceful ageing over the next 8–15 years and beyond.

Food‑wise, this Brunello absolutely shines with bistecca alla fiorentina, truffle risotto, herb‑roast lamb or duck, and aged Pecorino, where its tannin and savoury complexity can really stretch out. It also works beautifully alongside wild mushroom dishes and rich ragù, and given its 96‑point pedigree and limited production, it’s the kind of soulful Tuscan centrepiece worth cellaring as well as pouring on special occasions.
