Vincent Girardin Pommard Les Vieilles Vignes
Vincent Girardin Pommard Les Vieilles Vignes 2023 (6 Bottles) Burgundy, France
About this product
Vincent Girardin Pommard Les Vieilles Vignes 2023 from the Côte de Beaune’s powerhouse village of Pommard is a dark‑fruited, structured Pinot that brings real depth and old‑vine complexity while still carrying Girardin’s trademark polish and finesse. Drawn from 60‑plus‑year‑old vines across limestone‑and‑clay sites such as Vaumuriens, Noizons and Mareaux, this Pommard Vieilles Vignes is hand‑picked, partly whole‑bunch fermented and then aged around 15 months in French oak, roughly 30% new, giving real frame without swamping the fruit.
In the glass, you can expect a deep ruby colour and a complex nose of black cherry, blackberry and dark plum, intertwined with spice, woody and smoky notes, violets and a touch of forest floor and licorice. The palate is medium to full‑bodied, powerful and firmly structured, with a core of dark berries, savoury spice and earthy minerality wrapped in present yet well‑coated tannins and fresh acidity, leading to a long, persistent finish that shows exactly why Vincent Girardin Pommard Les Vieilles Vignes is regarded as a reference wine for the appellation.
Food‑wise, this Pommard is made for coq au vin, roast or grilled red meats, lamb, game dishes, terrines and aged cheeses, where its structure, dark fruit and savoury complexity can really stretch out. It will benefit from a few years in the cellar to soften those tannins and develop more tertiary nuance, but with a decent decant, Vincent Girardin Pommard Les Vieilles Vignes 2023 will already offer plenty to Burgundy lovers who enjoy robust yet elegant Côte de Beaune reds.
