Ata Rangi Pinot Gris 2024 from Martinborough is a fuller‑bodied, textural Pinot Gris in a style inspired by Alsace, but fine‑tuned to a distinctly cool‑climate, New Zealand expression.

Aromas lead with fresh pear, lychee and citrus, layered with perfumed rose, jasmine and a touch of citronella, plus hints of guava and stonefruit. The palate opens with spicy nutmeg and ground ginger, then flows into a rich, creamy yet vividly fresh mouthfeel – pear, peach and citrus over a wet‑stone, gently herbal, mineral line. It’s dry, concentrated and salivating, with phenolic texture balancing bright acidity and a long, cool, complex finish.

Food‑wise, Ata Rangi Pinot Gris 2024 is superb with Thai or Vietnamese dishes, tandoori chicken, richer seafood, roast chicken or pork, and even creamy pastas, where its weight and spice can stand up to bolder flavours while the acidity keeps everything in check. It’s already impressive but will only gain further complexity with a few years in the cellar.
