This Policy outlines what customers and recipients should expect when receiving deliveries of alcoholic products ordered via Cellars.com.au.

How to Receive an Alcohol Delivery

To receive a delivery that contains alcohol, the recipient must:

  1. Be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Not appear to be intoxicated at the time of delivery.
  3. If requested, present an approved proof of identity showing they are the person named on the order and that they are over 18.

The delivery partner may record identification details where required by law or internal compliance protocols. These may include the recipient’s full name, date of birth, and document type (e.g. Driver Licence).

In some jurisdictions, only the nominated recipient may be permitted to receive the delivery. In others, any adult present at the delivery address may receive the package, subject to ID verification. The applicable rules vary by State and Territory law.

Why These Measures Are Required

Delivering alcohol is a regulated activity. Cellars.com.au and its delivery partners are bound by the following legal obligations:

Accepted Proof of Identity Documents

To verify age and identity, the delivery partner may request one of the following approved forms of identification:

  • A driver’s licence issued by an Australian state or territory, or an overseas equivalent;
  • An Australian or foreign passport;
  • A Photo Card issued by a State or Territory government;
  • A Proof of Age Card issued by a State or Territory government;
  • A Keypass Identity Card (issued by Australia Post);
  • A digital ID, where permissible under State or Territory law (e.g. SA’s mySA GOV).

If the recipient cannot produce a valid ID from this list, the delivery cannot be completed, and the alcohol will be returned to the sender or depot in accordance with our partners’ procedures.

What happens if I don’t have valid ID?

If you are unable to provide approved proof of age, the delivery will be refused. The goods will be returned to the warehouse or sender, and we may contact you to reschedule or issue a refund (less applicable delivery and restocking fees).

Why is the delivery partner recording my information?

In some jurisdictions, our delivery partners are required to record age verification data to comply with liquor licensing laws. This may include your name, date of birth, and ID type. This information is securely transmitted to and managed by our delivery partner’s system and may be shared with Cellars.com.au only where legally required for compliance.

How is this information stored and for how long?

Any personal information collected for age verification purposes is stored securely within Australia and handled in accordance with the Cellars.com.au Privacy Policy. It will be retained only for as long as required under law or for operational verification purposes, after which it will be de-identified or securely deleted.

What if my ID is not on the approved list?

If your form of identification is not legally recognised under applicable regulations, the driver will not be permitted to complete the delivery. This is to ensure compliance with alcohol delivery laws across all Australian states and territories.

What if I don’t want the driver to collect my details?

If you refuse to provide or allow collection of proof of age information, the delivery will not be completed. This is a legal requirement and a condition of purchase when ordering alcoholic beverages through Cellars.com.au.

Note on Third-Party Delivery

All deliveries are handled by licensed third-party carriers and suppliers. By placing an order on Cellars.com.au that includes alcohol, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Our partners will conduct the delivery and enforce all required age verification procedures;
  • Cellars.com.au is not responsible for any refusal to deliver if identification requirements are not met;
  • Risk and title to the goods pass at the point of dispatch from the licensed fulfilment partner, not on delivery.
