Di Giorgio’s Coonawarra Shiraz 2022 from legendary terra rossa soils is a great example of old vine character, crafted in part from shiraz vines dating back to the original 1890 Coonawarra Fruit Growing Colony. Deep purple with crimson hues, the vibrant perfumed nose bursts with raspberry, spice and cracked pepper aromas with subtle oak influence adding complexity. Deliciously ripe raspberry, mulberry and liquorice flavours mingle with nuances of black pepper found only in wines created from old vines, finishing with vibrant black fruit, smooth velvety tannins and toasty vanilla oak.

This Coonawarra Shiraz pairs brilliantly with chargrilled lamb and baby eggplant where its black pepper notes complement charred flavours, while roast beef allows the wine’s ripe fruit and spice characters to shine through. Mature hard cheeses and hearty winter casseroles also make ideal matches, with the wine’s full-bodied structure providing satisfying warmth.

Aged 20 months in French and American oak barriques and hogsheads with 35% first use and 65% older oak, this wine shows beautiful balance between fruit and oak. It will cellar well in appropriate conditions for 8–10 years, though the 2022 vintage is drinking beautifully now with chalky, pulpy and fruity characters.
