Winemaker Stephen Cook certainly knows how to make a classic Barossa Shiraz. The Marananga SR804 is a brooding, single-region Shiraz with dark fruit, roasted meat, chocolate and spice wrapped in a powerful frame. It’s dense, savoury and seriously cellar-worthy, with only 800 bottles made and a long finish that shows real class. (RRP $85)

1x Cradle of Hills Row 23 Shiraz 2018

With 95 points from Sam Kim, this is the lowest scoring Shiraz in this premium pack, but we think it’s the best of the bunch. This Shiraz from McLaren Vale seriously punches above it’s weight for a $45 bottle, and winemaker Paul Smith could honestly charge a lot more. The Row 23 is a powerful single-block Shiraz with ripe dark fruit, real concentration and a polished, cellar-worthy frame. It shows classic McLaren Vale depth and savoury class, with firm tannins, balanced oak and a long, structured finish that gives it serious presence and ageing potential. (RRP $45)

96 points and five stars from Sam Kim, along with a gold medal from Wine Showcase Magazine tells you this is a Shiraz worth trying. It’s a rich, confident South Australian red with generous dark fruit, spice and smooth oak influence. It brings a plush, modern palate with plenty of depth, finishing long and savoury with the kind of appeal that makes it an easy crowd favourite. (RRP $85)

1x O’Leary Walker Clare Valley Shiraz 2023

You don’t often think Clare Valley when it comes to big-hitting Shiraz, but the 2021 vintage of this wine was the first from the area to take out the coveted ‘Best Shiraz in Show’ at the London Wine Competition. The 2023 vintage is on par scoring 96 points from Ray Jordan who praised it as “Perfectly balanced.” This is a cool-climate Shiraz with vibrant dark berry fruit, fragrant spice and fine regional structure. Clare Valley gives it brightness and precision, while the palate stays supple and composed, finishing with freshness, balance and real drink-now appeal. (RRP $40)
