The ABC Chardonnay grows on one hectare of vines on the home vineyard. This small plot faces east on a gentle slope, and the vines are rooted in sandstone, ironstone and quartz-rich clay soils. The fruit was picked by hand and pressed as whole bunches to large-format oak for fermentation. The wine matured for 11 months on full lees with occasional stirring.

ABC 2022 is a leaner style than in previous years and it has apples and pears and honey, but this is balanced with savoury undertones and an earthiness from the clay and minerals in the sandstone. The acidity is present from the beginning but lingers nicely and is carried by a phenolic sandy texture.
