In the glass it shows a bright purple hue with fragrant red berry, mulberry and cassis aromas, layered with darker fruits, cigar box, leather and a hint of warm winter spice. The palate is medium bodied and moreish – fresh red mulberry, cherry and a touch of red pepper, underpinned by mocha, chocolatey vanillin oak and a subtle earthy savouriness, all wrapped in soft, balanced tannins.

On the table it’s a natural with roast lamb, herb‑rubbed beef, burgers or Mediterranean‑style casseroles, where its herbaceous, earthy finish and gentle spice really come alive. It also works smartly with roast mushrooms, hard cheeses and mid‑week pasta bakes, and while it will hold for a few years, it’s very much made for drinking now and enjoying as soon as you crack it.
