Claymore Wines Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz 2023 from Clare Valley is a dark, brooding, full‑bodied Shiraz that packs in forest‑berry fruit, spice and serious Clare power while still feeling polished and moreish in the glass. It follows a long line of fan‑favourite Dark Side releases, dialling up classic Clare strength and suppleness with plenty of cellar potential.

In the glass, Claymore Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz shows bright burgundy to deep purple colour, with an aromatic nose of leather, spice, white pepper, earth and forest fruits, plus fleeting rosewater and dark cherry notes. The palate is dark, dense and richly fruited – stewed plums, mulberry, black cherry and dark berries – layered with choc‑licorice, berry coulis, dark chocolate and smoky, spicy oak. Fine, gently drying tannins and balancing natural acidity carry those flavours through a long, satisfying finish, and it will reward at least a few years in the cellar.

Food‑wise, Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz is made for grilled rib‑eye, slow‑cooked beef cheeks, lamb shanks, rich barbecued meats and hearty winter stews, where its dark fruit and oak spice can really sing. It will also sit beautifully alongside aged cheddar, Gouda and strong hard cheeses, or a plate of char‑grilled mushrooms and eggplant for something a bit lighter but still gutsy.
