Syrah and Shiraz are the same grape variety, just with different names depending on where and how it’s grown and made. In France and most of the Old World, it’s called Syrah, and you’ll get a leaner, more savoury, peppery style—think Northern Rhône, with fine tannins and a bit of herbal flair. In Australia, we call it Shiraz, and it’s a whole different beast: bold, plush, packed with ripe dark fruits, spice, and often a bit of chocolate or oak. So, same grape, but the style and personality shift with the name and the region.
