Penny’s Hill ‘Edwards Road’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 from McLaren Vale is a deeply coloured, generously fruited Cabernet that still keeps a cool, refined edge – very much Cabernet first, McLaren Vale plushness second.

On the nose and palate you’ll find blackcurrant, black cherry and mulberry layered with chocolatey richness, dry herbs, bay leaf, green peppercorn, tobacco leaf, smoked‑meat savouriness and a lick of caramel sweetness from oak, 25% of which is new French. The wine is well structured, with firm but ripe tannins and a focused, long finish that soaks the palate without feeling heavy.

Food‑wise, Penny’s Hill Edwards Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is spot‑on with roast lamb, ribeye, beef short ribs, venison or a rich mushroom and lentil bake, where its black fruits, herb/tobacco notes and chocolatey depth really shine. It’s an excellent mid‑priced, single‑site Cabernet to decant now or cellar comfortably for a decade.
