Frederick Stevenson Morbinos 2022 from the Parish Hill vineyard in Uraidla, Adelaide Hills is a wildly expressive Malvasia field blend that leans into skinsy texture and exotic fruit while staying bright and refreshing rather than full orange‑wine territory. This Frederick Stevenson Morbinos 2022 blends Malvasia Bianca and Malvasia Istriana, hand‑picked, left on skins for 4–5 days, then pressed to old oak for nine months, giving passionfruit, green mango, jasmine, white peach, citrus oil, nougat and lemon curd with a buttery biscuit note.
The palate is oily and mouth‑coating upfront, sliding into sweeter tropical fruit before spiced tannin and racy acid snap everything back into line. It is properly textural with a long, flavoursome finish, the Malvasia Bianca bringing tropical lift and acidity while Malvasia Istriana adds layers and a slightly more reserved, savoury edge. Think “loud guy at the party” in the best possible way.
Food‑wise, Morbinos 2022 loves bold, aromatic dishes – chilli‑salt squid, prawn tacos, spicy fish, Middle‑Eastern mezze, rich vegetable tagines or washed‑rind and soft cheeses, where its oily texture, spice and acidity cut through fat and turn the volume up on flavour. It is an ideal bottle for orange‑curious drinkers wanting texture and personality without losing freshness.
