Ansonica
Ansonica, also known as Inzolia in Sicily, is a historic Mediterranean white grape that thrives in the hot, arid climates of southern Italy, especially on the islands of Sicily, Giglio, and Elba, as well as the Tuscan coast and archipelago. Its thick-skinned berries protect it from disease and harsh weather, making it well-suited to coastal vineyards, including the dramatic terraced slopes of Giglio and Elba. The grape’s resilience and adaptability have helped it survive near-extinction on these islands and continue to play a key role in both dry and fortified wine styles.
