Barbera d'Asti

Barbera d’Asti is a celebrated red wine from the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy, specifically produced in the hilly areas of Asti and parts of Alessandria. Recognized as a DOCG since 2008, it is crafted primarily from the Barbera grape (at least 90%), sometimes blended with small amounts of Freisa, Grignolino, or Dolcetto. The region’s gently rolling hills, with soils ranging from calcareous marl to sandy Astiane deposits, provide ideal conditions for Barbera, resulting in wines that balance fruit, freshness, and structure. The best vineyards are found on well-exposed slopes, benefiting from optimal sunlight and drainage.
