Fetherston Estate Camellia Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec 2022 from the Yarra Valley is a bright, medium–bodied Cabernet blend with juicy blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, gentle spice and a fresh, drinkable finish. It’s more about perfume and balance than heavy oak, making it an excellent modern cool–climate red.

On the palate you’ll find dark berries, a touch of mocha and cedar, soft but lightly grippy tannins and moderate alcohol, so it feels serious without being heavy or tiring. It’s a style that works just as well on a weeknight as it does with a nicer weekend meal.

Food–wise, it’s ideal with barbecued steak, lamb chops, burgers and sausages, as well as roast chicken, lamb rump, mushroom dishes, roasted vegetables and firm cheeses. It has the structure to take a few years in the cellar, but is already very approachable now.
